Formatting, threads, voice notes and unlimited files, in encrypted chats too.
Write with formatting, reply, react and start polls. Send photos, videos and files of any size, record voice notes and round videos. In direct messages, groups and private channels your device encrypts all of it before anything reaches a server.
Formatting you see straight away, without hunting for buttons.
Type a few characters around a word and the other person sees bold text, a spoiler or code. Beyond full markdown there are simple formatting tags for text colour, alignment and size.
route.gpxColour, alignment and size
Formatting tags work in every message, encrypted ones included, and need no markdown at all.
Reply, react and start a thread without losing the main conversation.
A reply shows what it refers to, a reaction replaces five "ok" messages, and a longer discussion moves to a thread next to the chat. All of it works when the conversation is encrypted too.
Replies with a quote
A reply shows a piece of the message it answers, so an hour later everyone still knows who replied to whom.
Reactions
The full emoji set plus emoji from every server you are on. Emoji from other servers are for everyone, no upgrade needed.
Editing and deleting
Fix a typo after sending and delete a message at any time. After a long discussion you clean up in bulk, up to 100 messages at once.
Threads
A longer conversation goes to a thread on the side. The main chat keeps a single line with the reply count.
Pinned and forwarded
Pin the messages that matter so everyone finds them, and forward any message to another conversation or channel.
Message menu
A reminder about a message at a chosen time and a report when something breaks the rules sit under a right click or a long press.

Files of any size, sent straight from your device.
Send a photo, a video or a whole archive without checking a limit. A large file travels directly to the recipient once they accept it, and in encrypted conversations every file gets its own key before it leaves your phone or computer.
- Attachments with previews
- Drag a file into the window or paste it from the clipboard. Photos and videos preview right in the chat.
- No size limit
- Large files travel from device to device once the recipient agrees, so server storage does not decide how big they can be.
- A key for every file
- In encrypted conversations your device encrypts the file with AES-256-GCM, using a key drawn for that file alone. Files are padded by at most 12%, so the server only knows their size roughly.
- Conversation gallery
- Photos, videos, links and files from the whole conversation in one place, without scrolling through the history.
- Link previews from the sender
- The app of the person who pastes a link fetches the page thumbnail and sends it inside the encrypted message. The server never learns which link you sent.
- Private vault
- A separate place for files you want at hand on every one of your devices.
Emoji and stickers that come with you to every conversation.
Emoji and stickers are saved to your account rather than to one server, so you can use them everywhere. Turn a photo into a sticker in one click and find a GIF without leaving the chat.
- Sticker from a photo
- Pick a photo, the app cuts out what matters and saves a ready sticker.
- Emoji and stickers on your account
- Your collection is available in every conversation and on every server, on all your devices.
- Server emoji for everyone
- Anyone can use emoji from other servers, not only people who support Plazer.
- GIFs
- GIF search lives in the message box, next to emoji and stickers.
Voice notes with transcripts made by your device, not a server.
Record up to 5 minutes and the recipient sees the waveform. When they cannot listen, they read a transcript made by their own device, and when someone speaks another language, the translation is made there too, without the recording going anywhere.
- Up to 5 minutes
- A voice note with a waveform that shows at a glance where someone talks and where they pause.
- Transcripts on the device
- The text is made locally, so neither the audio nor the transcript reaches any server.
- Translation on the device
- Messages and voice notes in another language are translated by your app, without a cloud service.
- Round videos
- A short camera clip in a circle that plays right in the conversation.
- Encrypted like files
- Every voice note gets its own random key, just like an attachment.
Messages that do more than wait for a reply.
These are ordinary messages in a conversation with one extra rule: a list the whole group edits, a capsule that opens on a chosen day, or a draw nobody can rig.
Live message
A list anyone allowed can edit. Someone adds, someone ticks off, and the message always shows the current state, so nobody scrolls through dozens of replies to see what is left.
Hidden answers
Poll answers stay covered until you reveal them to everyone at once. Nobody is swayed by what others picked, and the result appears in a single moment.
Fair draws
Roll a die, flip a coin or draw a person from the chat. The result is fixed in a way that cannot be swapped afterwards, so nobody can claim someone kept rolling until it suited them.
Time capsule
A message that opens only on a chosen day. Wishes sent ahead of time, a letter to yourself a year from now or contest results announced exactly on time.
Password or riddle messages
The content appears only after someone types the password or the right answer to a question. Good for treasure hunts, quizzes and surprises that should not come out too early.
Messages for chosen roles
On a server you write one message in an ordinary channel, and only people with the chosen roles can read it. Everyone else sees that a message is there, but not what it says.
Full-screen effects and coloured text
An effect sweeps across the recipient's whole screen as they open the message, and coloured text makes sure the important sentence gets noticed.
Spoiler shield
Type the title of a film, series or game you have not finished yet, and messages that might give away the ending stay covered until you uncover them yourself.
You decide when a message arrives and how long it stays.
Write at night without waking anyone, schedule wishes for the morning, set an away reply for your holiday and decide whether a conversation should disappear. Each of these is a single setting on a message or a conversation.
One day in a conversation
- 23:40
Send later
You write birthday wishes in the evening and set them to go out at eight in the morning.
- 02:15
Deliver when they wake up
The message arrives without a notification and waits until the recipient opens the app.
- 08:00
Sent at the chosen time
The wishes written last night go out right at eight, the time you picked.
- 13:00
Away reply
While you are away, Plazer answers with whatever you set. In a server channel you can also reply to someone privately.
- 18:30
Live location
Share your location for a chosen time or turn on "safe return", which tells your people you got there.
Read receipts
The setting works both ways: whoever turns receipts off does not see them either.
Disappearing messages
Set how long messages last, separately for a conversation, a group or a server channel.
One-off pin
Instead of live tracking, send a single place on the map.
Find any message, including in conversations the server cannot read.
One search covers every server and conversation at once, with filters and sorting. In encrypted conversations your device searches its own index, so the query never leaves it.

Every conversation at once
Servers, groups and direct messages in one set of results, filtered by who, where, what it contains and which day.
Inbox
Mentions and unread messages from all of Plazer in one place, so you do not have to check every server.
Saved and collections
Put messages, images and links aside for later and sort them into collections.
Server folders
Group servers into folders so the list does not grow forever.
Most of the work happens on your device, not on a server.
Features that many messengers can only offer by sending your content to a server, Plazer runs locally. The server gets an encrypted block and the address to deliver it to.
On your device
- Encrypting messages, files and voice notes
- Previewing the links you paste
- Transcribing voice notes
- Translating messages
- Searching encrypted conversations
- Padding messages to a fixed size
The server receives
- An encrypted block in one of a few fixed sizes
- The recipient to deliver it to
- The time it was sent
Reporting without breaking encryption
When you report a message, you hand its content to the moderators yourself. The rest of the conversation stays encrypted and nobody receives a key to it.
Questions about messages
The most common questions about how messages, files and voice notes work in Plazer.
Yes. Replies, reactions, editing, deleting, threads, polls, voice notes and files work the same as in ordinary conversations. There is one difference: your device encrypts the content, so the server passes it on without knowing what it says.
As large as you like. Large files go directly from your device to the recipient once they accept them, so there is no limit set by the server's storage.
On the recipient's device. The recording arrives encrypted, the app turns it into text locally and sends neither the audio nor the text anywhere. Message translation works the same way.
"Send later" sends the message at the time you choose. "Deliver when they wake up" sends it straight away but without a notification: the message waits until the recipient opens the app, so you wake nobody at night.
Yes. The setting applies to the whole conversation, group or channel where you turn it on, so after the chosen time the message disappears for every participant.
Your device keeps its own index of encrypted conversations and searches it locally. The query never leaves the device, so the server does not even know what you are looking for.
Yes, you can turn read receipts off in the settings. The setting works both ways: once you turn it off, you will not see who has read your messages either.
Yes. Emoji and stickers saved to your account are available in every conversation and on every server, and anyone can use emoji from other servers at no extra cost.
See where these messages happen
Messages work the same in one-to-one chats, in groups and in server channels. Each of these places has its own features.
