Open Plazer and install it on every device

Plazer runs at app.plazer.org. You open it in your browser and create an account right away, and with one command you install it as an app on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, macOS and Linux: with an icon, its own window and notifications.

Installing, step by step

Installed Plazer is the same app you get in a browser tab, with the same account and the same encryption. On top of that it gets its own icon, opens in its own window and, on iPhone, can send notifications.

Android

On Android you install Plazer from Chrome. Once installed it sits on your home screen and in the app drawer, like any other app.

What you tap

  1. 1Open app.plazer.org in Chrome.
  2. 2Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and choose to install.MenuInstall app
  3. 3Confirm in the dialog that appears.Install

If the menu shows "Add to Home screen" instead, choose it and then "Install". It is the same installation under an older name.

Where you find it
On your home screen and in the app drawer. Plazer opens full screen, without the address bar.
Notifications
You turn them on in Plazer, in your account settings, and Android asks for permission once. A notification only says "New message".
Updates
Every time you open it, Plazer loads the latest version. You download nothing from a store or a website.

iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad you add Plazer to your Home Screen from Safari. Installed this way, Plazer can send notifications, which a Safari tab cannot.

What you tap

  1. 1Open app.plazer.org in Safari.
  2. 2Tap "Share", the square with an arrow pointing up, and choose to add it to your Home Screen.ShareAdd to Home Screen
  3. 3Tap "Add", and from now on open Plazer from its icon on your Home Screen.Add

Plazer on your Home Screen has storage of its own, separate from Safari. So add it to your Home Screen first, and only then create your account or sign in there. Your account keys then stay in the app you actually use.

Where you find it
On your Home Screen, next to your other apps. Plazer opens full screen, without the Safari bars.
Notifications
They work in Plazer opened from its Home Screen icon, on iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later. You turn them on in your account settings and accept the system prompt.
Updates
Every time you open it, Plazer loads the latest version. You download nothing from the App Store.

Windows, macOS and Linux

On a computer you install Plazer from Chrome or Edge, and on Linux from Chromium too. Once installed it runs in its own window, with an icon in your system.

What you tap

  1. 1Open app.plazer.org in Chrome or Edge.
  2. 2Click the install icon on the right side of the address bar.Address barInstall
  3. 3No icon? In Chrome the install command is in the menu, in Edge under the Apps menu.MenuCast, save, and shareInstall page as app

You install from app.plazer.org. The plazer.org site you are reading now describes Plazer, while the app itself runs at app.plazer.org.

Where you find it
On Windows in the Start menu, where you can pin Plazer to the taskbar. On macOS in Launchpad and Spotlight, and you launch it from the Dock like any app. On Linux in your desktop's app menu.
Notifications
You turn them on in Plazer, in your account settings. Your system shows them, just like notifications from other apps.
Updates
Every time you open it, Plazer loads the latest version. No installers to download, no update buttons to click.

One account on all your devices

Your phone, tablet and computer are separate devices on the same account. You add a new one with no email and no text message: a device you are already signed in on confirms it, together with your recovery key.

  3. 3You confirm with your recovery keyOn the signed-in device you check the new device's name and enter your recovery key. The new device gets keys of its own and joins the account.

If you no longer have any signed-in device, you choose "Recover it with your recovery key" on the sign-in screen and enter your password and the key. Your conversations come back as the apps of the people you talk to add the new device.

Always the latest version, and notifications without content

Installed Plazer needs no looking after: new versions arrive by themselves, and notifications say just enough to make you open it.

Loading the new version

Updates without an installer

A new version of Plazer lands on app.plazer.org, and the next time you open it you have it on every device. No files to download, no update button to look for.

Notifications without content

A notification never says who wrote or what. The service that wakes your phone only gets a signal, and the content stays encrypted until you open Plazer.

Check which version is running

In Plazer, open Settings: the version and build number are at the bottom. Compare them with app.plazer.org/version.json, which also lists the SHA-256 of every file of the app, so you can check for yourself any file your browser downloaded.

Questions about installing

The most common questions about installing Plazer, notifications and adding more devices.

Yes. The app and our servers are free. If you run your own community server, you only pay for the machine you run it on.

No. You open Plazer at app.plazer.org and install it straight from your browser: Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome or Edge on a computer. You do not need an account in any store.

Yes. Open app.plazer.org in Safari, tap "Share" and then "Add to Home Screen". Notifications work in Plazer opened from its icon, on iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later.

Check that the address bar says app.plazer.org rather than plazer.org, and that you use Chrome or Edge, or Safari on iPhone and iPad. If Plazer is already installed, the browser offers to open it instead of installing it.

On the new device you choose "Add this browser to your account", connect it to a signed-in device with a QR code or eight digits, and confirm with your recovery key on the device you are already signed in on.

Yes. Every time you open it, it loads the latest version from app.plazer.org, both installed and in a browser tab.

The version and build number are at the bottom of Settings in Plazer. app.plazer.org/version.json gives the same number and the SHA-256 of every file of the app, so you can compare whether what runs for you is exactly what is published.

On a phone, hold the icon and remove it like any app. On a computer, open the menu in Plazer's window and choose to uninstall. Your account stays, but if you also remove the site data with the app, that device has to be added to your account again.
